The days leading up to elections are always my least favorite of all. I receive automated telephone call after telephone call from various campaigns asking for my support on voting day. The television commercials are flooded with negative campaign advertisements. On voting day itself, I always seem to encounter at least one voter who has snide remarks to make about the candidate(s) that I voted for. Don't get me wrong... No matter how inconvenient/unpleasant these experiences are, I am extremely greatful to live in a democratic society where the citizens have the right to choose their leaders.
I routinely find amusement in things that my kids say, and "Adrian's quote of the week" was definitely one that lightened my mood in the midst of the negative campaign propaganda. This week on the morning drive to drop the kids off at their schools we were listening to the radio. An announcer came on for a brief segment to talk about all of the day's important news. He happened to mention the state of California's Proposition 19, "which will legalize marijuana for non-medical use if passed." Adrian immediately yelled from the back seat of the van, "MOM! They said Awanas* on the radio!!". He was so excited about it that I just replied, "Yes they did! Can you believe it??".
*For anyone that doesn't know, Awanas is a Christian club for children that our kids attend weekly.
